Killing Romulus (2017)

"Killing Romulus" is a play written by Luis Barrales. It is inspired in William Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus. The staging of the play is directed by Sebastián Jaña. He uses different times and spaces to explore the violence in the original text and make it deeper.
Sebastián Jaña directs the production which is performed by María Gracia Omegna, Moisés Angulo, Felipe Zepeda, Claudio Ravanal and Nicole Sazo.
The staging of the play portrays an Art Proffessor who dictates a Shakespeare Workshop to young immigrants. It happens at the time the biggest terrorist attack in history takes place. After the attack, all the immigrants, including the teacher, are considered suspicious and potentially dangerous. Because of it, they incarnate Shakespeare’s tragedy in real life.
Four scenes from the Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus organize this play, which is placed in different times and spaces, from the ancient Rome to the contemporary Chile.
