Tears Topography (2016)

Inspired by the play The Maids, by Jean Genet, the Chilean playwright Luis Barrales portrays servitude in Chile. His play narrates the story of Isabel, an investigative journalist, who is preparing a presentation about the Chilean domestic servant, la nana, to participate in an international congress.

One morning, Isabel decides to stay working from home. At that moment, she runs into Solange, her maid. While Solange cleans the house, her boss decides to show her the work that is preparing to the congress. After that meeting, they start a relationship that shows the huge cultural and political gap between these two women, which cannot be reduced by their condition as women. Jaña presents a critical view of the Chilean social changes from the past years, which haven’t been able to shorten the social gap in Chile.
